Who We Are...

Mission Statement:
Take Me Home Pet Rescue is a 100% nonprofit organization committed to ending the homeless pet overpopulation by removing dogs and cats from shelters and other unfortunate situations and having them spayed, neutered, vaccinated and microchipped before being adopted to their forever families.

We consists of a small group of volunteers who care about the welfare of our homeless pets.  We are located in Richardson, Texas and  survive solely from donations and fundraiser's (after fundraiser...after fundraiser!). All of our pets live in our homes as we do not have an actual facility. Because they live within the dynamics of the foster families and are exposed to children of all ages and other pets, we find that that our foster cats and dogs are more adoptable as they have already been socialized to live in a family environment.

We have  been in existence since April 2008 and have already rescued over 471 dogs and cats from local kill shelters and other unfortunate situations.

All dogs and cats are spayed and neutered before being adopted. These pets also receive all appropriate vaccinations and are microchipped.  In effort to reduce the possibility of the pet being returned, adopters are carefully screened to be sure that the personality of both the pet and  adopter are a good match.

Visit "Adoptable Pets" for more information on dogs and cats that are currently available for adoption.

Kodiak "Kodi"  is 12 week old!

This sweet boy was one of 5 puppies born to a backyard breeder.  Rescue was called in when the momma dog died after giving birth.  Kodiak's siblings did not survive, but as you can see Kodiak is growing like a weed!  Dr. Neeman says he is part Great Pyrenees (as he has dewclaws) and maybe part lab. He is pure white and his coat is thick and fluffy.  He is now 8 weeks old and learning to potty outside-big plus for his foster mom! He is very playful and loves his dog toys.  Kodi will be available for adoption in a few weeks. If you are interested in adopting him, please send us an email and we will send you back an application.  He will be a large dog, probably 70 pounds or more.  Kodi says he would be happiest with a family who has kids to play with and another dog to wrestle with. He loves kids, cats and dogs. He will need to be an inside dog due to his heavy coat and may require frequent grooming too.

Take Me Home Pet Rescue volunteers worked together to rescue a homeless dog and her eight puppies.  The pregnant dog had been seen wandering around at night  for weeks by a nightshift security guard named Chuck Williams in West Dallas.  Williams says she was eating crickets and trash and he could tell she would soon be delivering her pups. After sending several emails to various rescue groups asking for help, the email was forwarded to Take Me Home and we made contact. By the time we became involved, the dog had already delivered the pups, but Williams was not sure where.  On August 11, 2010 a group of volunteers with various degrees of experience showed up at the abandoned house in search of the pups.  The momma dog was very sweet and willing to wander around the vacant homes with the volunteers- but it took some time before whimpering was heard.  After two hours of removing floor boards in 120 degree heat, eight puppies were uncovered and removed.

Based on our findings the house appears to be an abandoned dog fighting ring.  We believe that the momma dog was dumped in the area and was never a part of what took place in this house at one time.  You can see we found bones of dogs and other paraphernalia relating to dog fighting. We are investigating how to get the house torn down.

The entire family is now safe at Kindness Small Animal Hospital under the care of Dr. Aron Neeman and his amazing and dedicated staff.  The little pup who is missing her leg is in foster home with a sibling but we need more foster homes, future adopters and funding.  Can you please help us help them? You can see more about the rescue by going to http://takemehomepetrescue.blogspot.com.
We need you more than ever!

Please consider making a donation on behalf of this family. We are looking for foster homes and adopters. The estimated expenses are over $2,000.00. The momma dog is also heart worm positive. One puppy is missing her back leg and appears that it was due to some sort of trauma however it is healing and she is learning to get around on just three legs.  The puppies are healthy and will be ready for adoption soon.  They appear to be boxer mixes.
